A press conference was held on May 25, 1959 at Manhattan's Empire State Building to announce the creation of the world's largest outdoor entertainment center - Freedomland U.S.A. The location for the theme park was a 205-acre site at the southern part of about 400 acres of marshland in the northeast Bronx.
