The Church of Scientology is known for actively recruiting celebrities. As early as the 1950s, founder L. Ron Hubbard encouraged members to get celebrities to join the church and offered a plaque to anyone who recruited the famous people on his list, including Walt Disney and Ernest Hemingway.
